UdG at a Glance
The University of Girona (UdG) has various campuses scattered around the medieval city of Girona, situated in the Spanish autonomous region of Catalonia. UdG is one of the country’s pioneering institutions of higher education in tourism, offering courses in the field since 1989. The Faculty of Tourism, situated at the top of the old quarter, “Barri Vell”, runs two undergraduate programmes, three master courses and one PhD programme. The Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) is one these master’s programmes.
Faculty of Tourism
The Faculty's main aim is teaching quality under the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA) concept introduced in 2008-2009. The Faculty of Tourism has collaboration agreements with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in many countries worldwide, thus offering students the possibility to complete part of their course abroad. Research is carried out through the Institute of Tourism Research (INSETUR), focusing on basic and applied research, postgraduate studies and lifelong learning.
Awards & Achievements
In 2019, the EMTM programme reached for the third consecutive time the first position of the ranking of masters in tourism management in Spain, which is elaborated by the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo".
Throughout the years, the Faculty of Tourism has established and developed ties with the Catalan tourism sector by collaborating with industry representatives in research projects and the organization of workshops and field trips. Furthermore, faculty members have linkages with universities and tourism organizations worldwide and participate in international cooperation projects.
The UdG offers a Joint Doctoral Programme in Tourism together with the University of the Balearic Islands.
